Newspapers
News articles of historical value in current local newspapers are preserved and classified by the city, town or township concerned.
The Gilbert Herald has donated all of its newspaper archives from 1923 to the present date. We have annual books of the Gilbert Herald newspapers from 1923 to 1995. There are even a few very rare issues from 1912 to 1916. We also have each annual index from 1923 to the present to locate births, deaths, marriages and special events in the Gilbert Herald, which may be copied for individuals requesting them. The books of the Eveleth papers range from 1902 to 1978. The Tower News is also available on microfilm at the Iron Range Historical Society. There are also some books of newspapers from Aurora, Biwabik (1900 to 1901), and Virginia. These are a wealth of information for researchers. The Iron Range Historical Society has also contributed photographs to the Ely Echo as well as for the “Neighborhoods” section of The Mesabi Daily News .
